Concord Hospital Receives $3,000 Grant from Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund
Concord Hospital received a $3,000 grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund to support its SMART Heart Meal Program. The program supplies discharged patients with three days of low-sodium meals along with a 30-day supply of meals delivered at no cost from Meals on Wheels. The ultimate goal of the program is to reduce the number of patient readmissions to the hospital within 30 days of discharge.
The SMART Heart Meal Program is funded through charitable grants and educates patients about low-sodium food options. Patients are also provided a cookbook of recipes that can help avoid fluid buildup, or congestion, that occurs when the heart is not pumping as well as it should.

“The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund works to assist nonprofit organizations in New Hampshire and has donated more than $7 million since its establishment in 1985,” said Anu Mullikin, chair of the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund. “We are pleased to contribute to the critically important impact Concord Hospital has on the lives of patients in the Greater Concord area.”
The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund makes grants to tax-exempt organizations without regard to religious affiliation for projects that help people in New Hampshire meet their basic needs. The Fund is operated by volunteer lay men and women who serve as Directors and who make recommendations to the Bishop of Manchester for grants to any organization in New Hampshire whose mission is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Fund raises money through the solicitation of individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations.
